An Enjoyable Weekend Over all!

This week has been awful, a number of visits to the doctors, and been bed bound with the flu, but with feeling better over the weekend I have managed a few sessions on the bank and grab some new kit for my Perch Float fishing sessions! I was hoping for some longer sessions but, with still feeling quite rough I ended some of the sessions much earlier then I would have liked, but anyway time on the bank was still achieved!

Ever since catching my first 2LB Perch I have been looking into a lot of information on them, when they feed, best bait etc, so when reading that Float fishing is one of the best methods of catching Perch I thought why not give it ago. So over the weekend I have had a few sessions down the canal trying with the float. Bait wise I was using Maggot, Worm and Prawn!

Over the last few days I tired a number of spots with the float, but unfortunately nothing to come of it and the new kit wasn't christened, but I now know of a few other places off a local bloke at the tackle shop which I will try next weekend hopefully! But one thing I have noticed over the last few days is about 8-10 lure anglers walking past me while I have been float fishing is that EVERYONE of them has blanked with only a few follows off small Perch but NO pike! So I thought I got to give it ago! There cant be nothing in this section of the canal, can there........?

So yesterday I thought lets get the lure kit out and have ago, but I wanted to give the new Savage Gear 3D Crayfish ago. When I first heard and seen these I thought I'm not going to bother, but with all the hype and in certain waters its been doing well I brought a pack including the hooks!

Its was only a very quick session as I felt very rough! However, with the 3rd cast I was hooked into a fish, I thought as soon as I knew the hook was set "I hope its a huge Perch", but with the fish surfacing and the flash just under the water I could see 100% that is was a Pike! But I'm not going to complain as it went into the landing net and a few stood around to watch me land the Pike I was over the moon, and with it weighting in 5LB I was happy as the canal has been fishing hard lately!

Many thanks to the guy who offered to take this photo:

Well, that was the only fish of the weekend for myself, but I did lean a lot and have more plans and equipment to my armoury to catch the big Perch! I would also want to thank Jay "Zedhead" for the information and the "How To" Phone calls I keep bugging him with! But her is one more photo I took this weekend, Fishing hard or not the Basingstoke Canal is an amazing venue!
