A Winter Carp Session On The Canal

Last weekend I had a session on the Basingstoke Canal for some of the winter carp! Winter Carp is on my hit list before the year is over and specially from the Basingstoke Canal. But in all honesty I haven't been putting much time in, and to catch winter canal Carp you have to go find them specially in the cold winter months.

On this session I was unsuccessful but with the weather like it was I was going to complain, and this was a mid November's morning!

Setup And Ready To Go!

On one rod I was using a single bait made with a the hook bait being peperami with a PVA bag with filled with Hampshire Tackle 2mm and 4mm pellets soaked for a few weeks in CCMoore Chill Liquid and added chilli powder just from Tescos. This rig was fished on a clear area in the channel of the canal. the second rod was fished with a small 10mm Nash Purple Monster Squid Pop-up soaked in Nash's Monster Squid on a chod rig. This rig was going to cast about the swim looking for fish with a few free offerings of Nash Purple Monster Squid Boilies.

Unfortunately the day ended up in a blank, but for a mid November's morning and the weather to be like that I can't complain!

2LB 2 Ounce Perch - A New P.B!

Maybe the best fish I have ever caught.....  Not a lot of 2LB and above Perch come from the Basingstoke Canal I have been told, so you can guess what I thought when this tipped up into the landing net! Again the Savage Gear small 4Play Lures have brought me a P.B! I was only after the Jacks on a morning session and for this 2LB Perch to make an appearance I was over the moon!

Not A Very Good Shot, But Still Happy With The P.B Perch!

New Pike P.B

I always said my goal by Christmas was to catch a Pike 6LB or above, well after fishing Fleet Pond for a good few weekends now and atone swim I kept missing a good sized pike. I could often see it as it attacked the little Savage Gear 4Play lure on the retrieve! But one more morning about 6 weeks ago I was luck enough it was still there and I caught it!

Lucky enough there was a few guys fishing a swim close by so I got one of them to take a few pictures! Weighted in just over 6LB!

I'm Back....

So after leaving the match fishing scene for work, lack of interest started to build, buying a house all those daily accounts in life I sold maybe 90% of all my gear and decided to just start the odd days out on the bank. I have to admit I do miss the match scene now and again, but I think just because of the lads mainly, which I was lucky enough to make some good mates. So what now I thought and thinking it normally cost about £10 for a day session I read up that joining a club can be a good idea as for a one off payment you can fish as much as you like on there venues. So with a bit of research I joined Farnham Angling Society. Loads of lakes and miles and miles of river so that should keep me happy!

1st Ever Bream Caught - Fleet Pond - 2012

These days specially now that the temperature is dropping I can be found chasing the Pike and Perch on the Basingstoke Canal, Fleet Pond and after Perch and winter Carp on the Farnham waters!

Hope you enjoy the Blog and Tight Lines......
